Yes. A facility site map is a mandatory component of every Hazardous Materials Business Plan in California. It must be submitted through CERS and must accurately reflect your current chemical storage locations, emergency equipment, and evacuation routes.
What does a compliant HMBP site map need to show?
At minimum, your site map must show chemical storage locations with quantities indicated, emergency equipment (fire extinguishers, spill kits, eyewash stations), evacuation routes and emergency exits, utility shutoffs (gas, electric, water), and loading/unloading areas. Many CUPAs have additional requirements.
Can I draw the site map myself?
You can, but self-drawn maps are one of the most common sources of HMBP deficiencies. Inspectors look for specific elements in a specific format. Maps that are unclear, missing required elements, or inconsistent with the chemical inventory frequently result in violations.
